"Make your own favors" - Really?

Why making your own favors might not be such a good idea after all.

most-hilarious-pinterest-fails-ever/
We've all seen some Pinterest DIY fails and laughed and admitted that; "It won't happen to me!"

Well, imagine the stress that you will be in a few days before the big event (wedding, baby baptism) with all the preparation work. Now, imagine that on top of that, you'll have to spend hours trying to find and order all the necessary supplies for your favors and wait impatiently to be delivered. Of course, if you have an army of little helpers things might be a little bit brighter but, you'll still have to orchestrate all the process and organize all the participants to get together. Some of them might have some previous experience but, nevertheless, not all of them will be good with their hands. So, you might end up with some fabulous favors and some of them might look like the hedgehog cake above!

OK, OK I can hear you. Why not do them well in advance and not leave them to the last minute..? In case, your favors contain dragées then, they will have to stored in a dry, dark and cool place for the chocolate dragées not to melt. And, if you have small kids you will most probably have to lock them in a safe place, too. You do know how nosy small kids are.

TOP tips for a godmother/godfather!

Tips for a godmother/godfather

Unlike the responsibilities of a mob gang's godfather or godmother that mostly consist of orders to kill and corrupt, a baby child's godfather/godmother is the second most important person, if not the first, in a baptism / christening Christian rite celebrating the new life given by God.

Tips before choosing your baby's name

Finding a Christian name for your boy or girl can become a challenge for new parents. Traditionally, a baby would take the name of one of their grandparents but that's not the case nowadays, as more and more couples decide to go with a more neutral name for their baby, so that they won't upset any members of the family.

A few tips before you choose:

  • Don't choose a name that might embarrass your kid later in his/her life.
  • Avoid complicated names that might have to be spelled or enunciated a few times to be comprehended.
  • Avoid names that can be turned into nicknames easily.
There are hundred's of websites that provide information and the roots of almost every name from ancient Greek to modern names, that you can choose from. Do your research and select with caution. Let's not forget Johnny Cash's song "A boy named Sue"!

Baby dedicated in an antique christening gown that has been worn by generations

Kari Noell and her 7-month-old son Mason Noell, who is dressed in his christening gown that was made in 1863 and will be worn again five generations later, look through a family album where Kari was christened in the same gown Mason will wear for his christening Oct. 13, 2014.

10 ways christening has changed

Prince George's christening on Wednesday comes 31 years after his father Prince William in 1982. Here are 10 ways in which baptisms have changed since then.

1. There are fewer christenings
George's christening is the exception rather than the rule. And not just because he's a royal.
Although christenings were already in decline, one in three infants was still baptised into the Church of England in 1980. By 2011 that had fallen to just over one in 10. The overall number of baptisms - of people of all ages - witnessed a similar decline, from 266,000 in 1980 to 140,000 in 2011.
It's a similar story in the Catholic Church, although the major drop-off in baptisms happened between 1964 and 1977, when the number halved. There's been a far gentler downward trend over the past three decades, recently stabilising at about 60,000 baptisms a year.

2. But more godparents
Liz Hurley with son Damian Liz Hurley chose Sir Elton John to be one of her son's godfathers
Christenings may have dwindled but the number of godparents per child has increased. Prince George will have seven. Elizabeth Hurley's son apparently has six godfathers.
And it's not just a celebrity fad.
"In practice it seems to be changing," says the Archdeacon of Leicester, Tim Stratford, although there's been no doctrinal change. That's because both the Church of England and the Catholic Church only have minimum requirements, of three and one respectively.
"It used to be the minimum that was the issue," says Stratford. "Now the issue for a lot of clergy is that often people are choosing a lot of godparents.
"The registers we have, for instance, often only have four spaces to put godparents' names but people may be choosing six or eight."
